NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE

Romeo and Juliet is a never-ending love story, a classic of choreography on the immortal
notes of Prokofiev’s extraordinary music, rich in emotions and descriptive details, profoundly theatrical and engaging. The technical variations, ensembles and pasde-
deux in Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet had unforgettable interpreters, passionately embodying the two Shakespearean lovers from Verona, whose story is treated by MacMillan with great attention to human relationships. Lyricism, psychological tension, and humour all contribute to build the dynamics and the emotions of the ballet d’action which are fully present in Prokofiev’s music. Romeo and Juliet returns with sets and costumes designed specifically for La Scala in 2010 by Mauro Carosi and Odette Nicoletti and the La Scala Academy Orchestra is conducted by Felix Korobov.
