NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE

Umberto Giordano’s Fedora is associated with legendary interpretations at La Scala, from Maria Caniglia and Giacinto Prandelli conducted by De Sabata to the couples formed by Maria Callas and Franco Corelli and by Mirella Freni and Plácido Domingo alternating with José Carreras, conducted by Gianandrea Gavazzeni. For this new production, the Theatre has enlisted two artists of great renown and extraordinary charisma, Roberto Alagna and Sonya Yoncheva, in addition to Massimo Cavalletti and Mariangela Sicilia, conducted by Daniel Oren. Often referred to as a precursor of cinematic language, Giordano’s melodrama is a fertile terrain for the narrative talent of Mario Martone, the imaginative sets by Margherita Palli and the costumes by Ursula Patzak.
