NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE

Paolo Carignani returns to the podium of the Orchestra of the Accademia for the revival of Il viaggio a reims in the classic staging signed by Luca Ronconi with sets by Gae Aulenti. This production was brought to La Scala by Claudio Abbado in 1985 with a legendary cast whose legacy will now be taken up by the young singers of today. With this revival La Scala remembers the great director who died in 2015 and who will be commemorated this year by various initiatives throughout the city. In the Piermarini Theatre, Luca Ronconi has
produced 24 opera titles from 1974 to 2008 with the leading musicians of our time, from Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti and Riccardo Chailly to Georges Prêtre, Seiji Ozawa and Giuseppe Sinopoli, making a significant contribution to the formation of the Theatre’s identity through a vast repertoire ranging from the eighteenth century to Stockhausen.
