The 1991 version of la traviata directed by Liliana Cavani, with sets by Dante Ferretti and costumes by Gabriella Pescucci, has become a classic of our Theatre over the years, featuring a succession of some of the finest artists of our time. After Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Nello Santi and Myung-Whun Chung it is Zubin Mehta who steps onto the podium this time, thus conducting two Verdi productions this Season. The cast includes Marina Rebeka and Angel Blue as Violetta, René Barbera as Alfredo alternating with Charles Castronovo, recently named Male Singer of the Year at the International Opera Awards, and Luca Salsi, Plácido Domingo and George Petean as Giorgio Germont. Some performances will be conducted by the young Milanese maestro Michele Gamba, already
applauded for l’elisir d’amore in 2019.
