For his sixth opera at Teatro alla Scala, Fabio Luisi conducts Verdi’s masterpiece of the Risorgimento, a title that has not been performed on Piermarini’s stage since it opened the 1898-1990 season. The new sumptuous production features stage direction, scenes, and costumes by Hugo de Ana, master at imbuing period settings with visionary flights of fancy. Two extraordinary lead players take turns on the stage, Marina Rebeka and Angela Meade, together with Piero Pretti, Luca Micheletti and Roman Burdenko.
